Mattress Care |
Most mattresses are now one-sided and no longer need to be flipped. Some manufacturers such as Aireloom or Vital Rest still make some two-sided mattresses. All mattress companies will provide instructions on how to rotate a new mattress. Always read and follow the manufacturer's instructions. Mattresses are much thicker now than ever before. All manufacturers also offer the option of a lower boxspring ("low profile"). That will bring the overall height down by 4 to 5 inches. These low profile boxsprings and foundations are normally the same price as the regular height option. Start off right by protecting your mattress with a mattress cover. We highly recommend a washable wool mattress pad. This will keep your mattress clean and keep you comfortable, but may not protect your mattress from a stain. If you are concerned with stains use a waterproof protector, but it will never add to your comfort level as well as a washable wool mattress pad. A soiled mattress may void your warranty. It is vital to remember the difference between a waterproof protector and a washable wool pad. A waterproof limits the air flow thus limiting the comfort of your new mattress. The new bamboo fiber, cotton, wool, and silk breathe and will improve the comfort of your mattress. We suggest that you use only a waterproof mattress pad in the case of incontinence. The only cleaning we recommend is using a vacuum. One of the most common forms of infestation is through contact with infested furniture in hotels, motels, and other places of temporary accommodation.
When traveling, be sure to keep your luggage, clothing, and handbags and shoes off the carpeted floor. This will help prevent these "hitchhikers" from becoming visitors to your home. The main difference between a bed bug and a dust mite is what they feed on. Bed bugs will bite you or your pet and take a tiny amount of blood from you while you are asleep. If you wake up with itchy, whitish bites, usually on your neck and arms it is most likely from bed bugs. Another way of identifying them is by the spots of blood you will find on your bed linen after their evening feast. From what we know today, bed bugs don't carry disease but don't scratch the bites, they may become infected. Dust mites feed off the dead skin from you and your pets. Their feces contains some of their stomach enzymes. The stomach enzymes are what most people are allergic to. These allergies can lead to asthma, skin conditions, but most commonly a blocked, itchy, or runny nose. We all have dust mites on our hair and skin at all times;, this is just a part of nature. We do need to keep them at bay in our sleeping area, however. A natural latex mattress or pillow is naturally bed bug resistant. Wool has the same attribute. Mattresses and boxsprings can also be placed in an encasement that provides the ultimate bug and allergy protection. The AllerZip Smooth mattress, boxspring, or foundation encasement provides a bed bug barrier and is certified by the Entomology Laboratory to be bed bug entry or escape proof.
